Despite being some of our more popular products we’ve made the decision to remove dishwasher tablets, laundry sheets and dissolvable cleaning pods from our shelves — and we want to be fully transparent about why.
When we first introduced these products, we genuinely believed we were making a positive choice. They were widely marketed as eco-friendly alternatives, and that aligned with everything we stand for. But as we’ve learned more, the picture has become more complicated.
Many of these products rely on PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) — the film or casing that dissolves in water. We’re now aware that PVA might not always fully break down during wastewater treatment, meaning it can pass through into waterways as a form of microplastic. For a shop built around reducing plastic pollution, that’s something we simply can’t overlook.
The journey to zero-waste is an ever-evolving path and this means we need to be willing to change course when evidence points that way. Therefore we’ll be running stocks of these products down and replacing them with alternatives we can more confidently stand behind. In fact you may already have spotted our new SESI dishwasher powder in store which is a fabulous alternative to pods with far less waste.
We apologise if this means you’ll not be able to buy your favourite products but we hope you’ll give our new alternatives a try.
If you have questions or want to share information or products with us then please get in touch, we’re always happy to chat.
